Attune Music & Wellness provides group and contract music therapy services to queer folx and queer people of color, especially adolescents/teens, young adults, and adults. Services are provided to the communities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Group music therapy makes it possible for group members to:

  • Become and share their true self with others.
  • Know that they are not alone.
  • Embrace their confidence and growth.
  • Build relationships and feelings of connectedness.

Group music therapy is often centered around building community, which is especially important if group members are not part of a community already. Group members learn that they don’t have to go it alone.

Music brings us all together in a collective experience where we grow, express, develop, and process.

Music therapy can support identity formation and provide opportunities to share with others in authentic and genuine ways.

So, how does it work?

Group/contract music therapy sessions are customized for your setting/space and for your group members’ needs. Music therapy sessions may include (but are not limited to): songwriting, creating music, listening and analyzing music or lyrics, relaxing to music, or improvising (creating on-the-spot) music. Often, music can speak for us when the words aren’t there yet.

To be a participant in music therapy requires no prior experience or formal training in music.

The purpose of music therapy is not to aim for musical perfection, but rather to promote holistic healing and acceptance of self.

FOR US & BY US

a note from Freddy, owner of Attune Music & Wellness

I am a queer person of color. I have founded Attune Music & Wellness because I want to break down the stigma of therapy and am offering services that are meant especially “for us and by us.”

Through music therapy, I address themes around intersectionality, code switching, minority stressors, and feelings of “less than.” We are stronger together through learning, leaning on one other, and growing side by side.

How do we get started?

Currently, all of our music therapy services are paid for out of pocket and taking place via telehealth due the COVID-19 pandemic. We have a vision of being able to provide a sliding scale and/or scholarship in the future.

Attune Music & Wellness also offers individual music therapy services in the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina areas. Please click here to find out more about our individual music therapy services.
